Hatha Yoga

Hatha Yoga is the form of Yoga practised predominently by the Practitioners at Pollenca Retreats.

Most forms of yoga in the West can be classified as Hatha Yoga. Hatha simply refers to the practice of physical yoga postures, meaning your Ashtanga, vinyasa, Iyengar and Power Yoga classes are all Hatha Yoga. The word “hatha” can be translated two ways: as “willful” or “forceful,” or the yoga of activity, and as “sun” (ha) and “moon” (tha), the yoga of balance. Hatha practices are designed to align and calm your body, mind, and spirit in preparation for meditation.

The Hatha Yoga Pradipika and the Gheranda samhita are derived from older Sanskrit texts. In Hatha Yoga Pradipika, Swatmarama introduces his system as preparatory stage for physical purification that the body practices for higher meditation or Yoga. It is based on asanas (postures) and pranayama (breathing techniques).

The difference between what we do and what we are capable of doing would suffice to solve most of the world’s problems.

Hatha yoga is a version of yoga that emphasises physical exercises to master the body along with mind as well as exercises to withdraw it from external objects.
