The Inspiration for the Centre
While remaining largely invisible to the mainstream, G.I. Gurdjieff https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Gurdjieffexerted a far reaching and enduring influence on modern thought, and left behind him a revolutionary teaching, taking as his starting point that men and women might be living in a world of relative illusion which renders us incapable of truly intentional action. Many of the principles of Gurdjieff’s work and vision have a resonance today that permeates many of the areas of practice and teaching in; Personal Development, Mindfulness, Spiritual Growth and awareness as well as key areas of thought in modern peace, reconciliation, sustainability and initiatives of sociological and cultural positive Change.
Parallels with Contemporary Spirituality
It is now widely proposed that the next stage in the history of our evolution is ‘consciousness’ – that humanity offers a way for the universe to be conscious of itself, to become what we already are, vast, spacious, not a fragment but part of the whole. The most fundamental question is asked; “Who am I” – in response to one of the most ancient directions; ’Know thyself’. This goes far beyond the adoption of certain spiritual ideas and beliefs which at best maybe helpful pointers. The suggestion is that ‘knowing oneself’ is to be deeply routed in being, to be conscious.
